Body Lift Surgical Procedures For Bariatric Weight Loss Patients

A Lower Body Lift is an extension of an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, which follows the bikini line around the entire body. In addition to the benefits of an abdominoplasty, it removes excess skin and fat and lifts the soft tissues of the thighs and buttocks. Some have referred to this procedure as a “face lift” for the body. It accomplishes more than just removing redundant skin. A Lower Body Lift actually rejuvenates the appearance of the body by tightening the supportive soft tissues of the treated area and can also improve cellulite. The Lower Body Lift can also be performed in combination with Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation procedures to produce a complete overall body transformation.

Drs. Tachmes and Pielet perform these procedures in the privacy of their state of the art plastic surgery suite located on Lincoln Road, South Beach. The surgeons usually operate in tandem to expedite the procedure and reduce overall operative time. Most cases require general anesthesia and last from 3 to 5 hours. Patients then spend 1-3 days recovering in a nearby South Beach Hotel with optional overnight nursing care available. Our practice can also arrange for a monthly rental apartment on miami beach for out of town patients who would like to stay in south florida longer. Patients usually take 2-3 weeks off from work, depending on their occupation. They can usually resume their normal level of activity 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. There is a permanent scar which fades over time and is easily hidden by bikini bottoms or panties.

Get more information on Dr. Tachmes’ Mommy Makeover Surgery Procedures:

The process begins with a consultation where you can discuss your specific concerns, goals and expectations. This is followed by a thorough examination and evaluation, and then, a detailed description of the various treatment options available to achieve your goals. The most commonly combined procedures in a Mommy Makeover include:

-Breast Lift with or without Breast Augmentation
-Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
-Liposuction
-Total Body Lift

Following pregnancy, and/or breastfeeding, the breasts can lose their shape resulting in a sagging or deflated appearance. They are often uneven in size and shape. Dr. Tachmes will discuss your options to restore or enhance the natural beauty of your breasts that you desire or once had.

A Tummy Tuck or Body Lift will tighten your mid-section which is often stretched out resulting in laxity of the skin and underlying muscles. This includes removal of excess skin and fat leaving you with a flat and youthful tummy. If there are lower abdominal stretch marks, they are often removed with the excess skin.

There are many physical changes that occur in a women’s body both during pregnancy as well as afterwards. This often includes significant weight gain throughout the body in addition to engorgement and enlargement of the breasts and loss of shape and tone in the abdominal area. These changes, along with breastfeeding, can result in the loss of a balanced and attractive body shape. By safely combining popular body contouring procedures, Dr. Tachmes can help you restore your youthful, pre-preganancy figure.

Liposuction is performed in other areas to treat unwanted fatty deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. These areas include, thighs, hips, waist, lower back and knees.

The economy has certainly put a damper on a lot of plans for elective cosmetic surgery. Now you don’t have to wait. So many patients have chosen not to use their cash or credit cards and finance instead.

Yes, you can finance cosmetic surgery! It’s an affordable and sensible option…. This trend continues to grow especially in these economically challenging times.

A major player in the cosmetic surgery financing game is CareCredit www.carecredit.com. They have been around for years and are backed by G.E. Money Bank. With CareCredit, you have the option of doing a 0% interest plan or stretching it out for up to 60 months. So, a common procedure such as rhinoplasty, pectoral augmentation, buttock augmentation and liposuction can be as low as $141 per month. You can even use CareCredit for you injectables such as Botox and fillers.

CareCredit has made the process quick and easy. To apply, you simply answer a few questions by going to their website at www.carecredit.com, calling them at 800-365-8295 or applying in our office. Any method you use will give you an immediate answer. We also provide a convenient link on our website at tachmesmd.com.

Once you are approved, you can use it to pay for all or a portion of your surgical fees and still have money in the bank. CareCredit gives you a line of credit that can be used for cosmetic surgery in our office or for any other medical practice that accepts Care Credit such as vision correction, dentistry or even with your veterinarian.

So, if you have been considering getting a cosmetic procedure and were uncertain about how you would pay for it or you just did not want to spend your money up front, consider financing as a smart way to go.

The exclusive plastic surgery practice of Dr. Pielet and Dr. Tachmes is designed to provide the ambiance of luxury within a safe, state-of-the-art environment for aesthetic service delivery. This practice at Miami Beach Plastic Surgery Center and Medspa is the only full-service plastic surgery clinic and medspa directed by a board-certified plastic surgeon on South Beach, situated on beautiful Lincoln Road and Meridian Ave. The practice provides a fully accredited operating room and recovery suite with a separate VIP entrance and exit for the ultimate in privacy and concierge luxury service.

Mmmm…cake.

Yes, it’s true. Scientists conducted a study where they gave two different diet programs to a group of 144 obese people. Both diets were low-carbohydrate and consisted of 1400 calories for women and 1600 calories for men. The only difference? One group got to eat a high-protein, high-carbohydrate, breakfast with a selection of cookies, chocolate, cake or ice cream for dessert.

The New York Times reports: “During an initial 16-week period, the average weight loss in each group was identical — about 32 pounds. But over a 16-week follow-up, people on the dessert-with-breakfast diet lost an additional 13 pounds on average, while the others gained back all but 3.5 of the pounds they had lost.”

The dieters on the desert regimen reported higher levels of fullness and maintained lower levels of a hormone called ghrelin, which stimulates appetite. Important stuff!

This is the first time in the mass-media (there are several research studies on it)that I’ve come across the all-important factor neglected by most dietary approaches: Nutrient Timing. It’s not just what you eat, it’s WHEN you eat.

This mirrors the advice I’ve been giving clients for years: To lose more weight, eat starches and sugars ONLY in the morning and after a workout. Why? Because you’re more metabolically active! That means that the calories are being used instead of stored around your waistline.

It’s also an important step because it goes against the the common saying that “it’s all about calories.” Our body’s metabolism is just more complex than that. Apart from the timing consideration, this study addresses the psychological aspect as well. By eating some dessert, the dieters were able maintain their weight loss while the other group gained some lbs back. Ideally, we would only eat a dessert as a once-in-a-while treat but many people aren’t ready for that. If you’re not ready give up your chocolate cake yet, this is a good step in the right direction.

Your Take Away:

If you’re a dessert lover who has trouble giving up the goodies yet still wants to lose weight, try eating your desserts after a good breakfast. I recommend that you eat your starches (breads, cereals, pastas, etc.) in the morning or after you workout as well.

A relatively simple procedure performed via an upper eyelid incision can lower the incidence of migraine attacks. The operation involves resection (removal) of the corrugator muscles that normally produce the frown lines expression of the forehead. Scientific studies have shown that migraine patients injected with botox to relax these muscles developed fewer migraine attacks. Subsequently, surgeons began to treat these patients by removing these little sling like muscles along the lower forehead with encouraging results. The procedure is performed via a small upper eyelid incision and takes about one hour to complete. The resultant scar is minimal and well hidden along the natural crease line of the upper eyelid. Patients develop some moderate post-operative swelling, minimal pain and require about one week to recover. Reports have shown up to 80% of patients obtain significant improvement in their migraine symptoms.

Here is some simple information on how a Rhinoplasty is performed. Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgical procedure. Rhinoplasty surgery is customized for each patient, depending on his or her needs. There is not a universal type of rhinoplasty surgery that will meet the needs of every patient. Incisions may be made within the nose and are generally concealed in an inconspicuous location of the nose with an incision across the columella (narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils). In some situations, cartilage grafts, taken from within the nose or from other areas of the body may be recommended in order to help reshape the structure of the nose. Internal nasal surgery (Septoplasty) to improve nasal breathing can be performed at the time of the rhinoplasty. Sometimes the procedure may be limited to the tip of the nose or it may involve repositioning of the bones. Other procedures such as chin reshaping (Sliding Genioplasty) are often combined with rhinoplasty to improve overall facial harmony.

DR. Tachmes describes his experience with “The Cadillac” of all cosmetic surgery procedures:

I perform a traditional and comprehensive face and neck lift surgery that targets the deep SMAS layer of the face and the more superficial skin layer. The deep layer of tissue is advanced both superiorly and laterally towards the side of the neck to produce the most natural appearing results with a well defined jaw line, reduction of jowls and nasalabial folds. The deep layer is anchored and secured with permanent sutures to ensure a long-lasting result. The more superficial skin layer is gently advanced upward along the cheekbone and laterally towards the side of the neck. The excess skin is trimmed and the incision closed with no tension to create a minimal, difficult to notice scar. Care is taken to maintain the natural appearance of the earlobe, which in many facelifts looks distorted and fused to the side of the face.

Many facelift surgeons neglect or ignore the neck portion of the procedure in an effort to cut operative time or minimize the scar around the face and ear. A complete facelift procedure will almost always require a small incision below the chin area, and plication and/or excision of the thin corset muscle of the neck known as the playtsyma. If this muscle is not treated, then residual muscle bands will be noticeable and ruin the overall aesthetic result of the facial rejuventation procedure. In some cases, I will pre-treat the neck and lower face with liposuction to reduce the fatty bulk of the face and further define the jawline and neck region before starting the actual facelift surgery.

A very popular additional step in the facelift procedure is the addition of fat transfer methods to complete the facelift surgery. Fat is harvested from a remote area of the body and injected into various areas of the face to augment the volume loss normally found in the aging face. This method produces a healthier, more complete aesthetic result by replacing lost volume along the cheekbones, temple, eyelid tear troughs, jawline, NL folds, lips and chin area. I have taken this procedure one step further by separating the patient’s adult stem cells from the fat and when the patient returns in two weeks, the stem cells are reinjected into the face to “supercharge” the results of the fat transfer. This is a very new, cutting edge process that very few surgeons have undertaken at present.

implants were French, British and South American. The FDA never approved these implants for use in the USA. The PIP implants have been found to be

defective with a very high rupture rate, and filled with industrial grade silicone.

In south Florida, I am seeing an increased number of these women requesting removal of the PIP implants and reaugmentation with new implants.

Some women present with ruptured implants, while others have intact implants upon surgical inspection. Either way, It is

highly recommended that any woman with these implants have them removed ASAP.

Although skin care counters normally do have licensed Aestheticians selling their products not everyone is fully aware of adverse reactions and contraindications of certain cosmeceutical ingredients. They are trained to sell the “MAGIC” of the product versus actually educating you on how to properly use them. Today, everyone is extra concerned with sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles. This is putting pressure on over the counter manufacturers to compete against more aggressive prescriptive product lines.

My top two tips to all uneducated consumers:

· Retinol is a miracle anti-aging product when used correctly and at the proper dosage. Prescriptive strengths of retinol are much more effective on aged skin and using for corrective purposes. You must wear proper sun protection everyday when using retinol to avoid developing hyperpigmentation (brow spots) due to retinol making your skin photo sensitive.

· Another product that is out on the market and can be sold over the counter under a certain percentage is Hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is considered a “bleaching” cream that actually works to inhibit the production of melanin. It is extremely rare that when purchasing a product that contains this ingredient, that the non-professional will be fully aware of the proper use of Hydroquinone as well as adverse reactions. Hydroquinone is best to be used twice a day and for NO LONGER than 6 months at a time. The product actually plateaus around this point and could possible start to cause darkening if over used. Also, you must wear sun protection everyday with this product as it can cause your skin to become photo sensitive.

ALWAYS SEEK A SKIN CARE PROFESSIONAL AT A DOCTOR’S OFFICE TO RECEIVE PROPER INFORMATION AND EFFECTIVE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS.
