Dr. Leonard Tachmes was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in Miami Beach. A graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School, he received his BS degree from Duke University, and his MD degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed a fellowship in Plastic Surgery of the Breast and Reconstructive Microsurgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan; A residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Chicago Hospitals; a residency in General Surgery at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., and an internship in surgery at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Dr. Tachmes has been an avid collector of contemporary and latin american art for over twenty years. In September of 2001, he established the Leonard Tachmes Gallery to promote and exhibit emerging, Miami-based contemporary artists in various mediums, including painting, photography, video, sculpture and installation. |
