VAGINAL REJUVENATION
VAGINOPLASTYThe aim of aesthetic vaginal surgery is to tighten lax muscles and supporting tissues in the vagina. This will achieve a narrower and tighter vaginal canal and smaller opening. A wide or “loose” vagina can result from overstretching or tearing of the vaginal and perineal muscles during childbirth. Aging can also cause similar problems. These anatomical defects may contribute to reduced friction during intercourse and diminished sexual pleasure. Vaginal rejuvenation is performed to restore the normal anatomy and function of the vagina and perineum. This may improve the pleasurable sensation during intercourse. The procedure can be done under general anesthesia or a local anesthetic with some sedation. Dr. Livnat uses a Laser device to perform very precise and minimally traumatic incisions in the vagina. The procedure takes about 60 minutes to perform. The recovery period is relatively short and the patient can return to work in 3-4 days. Sexual activity and exercise can be resumed in 6-8 weeks.
LABIAPLASTYThe goal of labiaplasty is to reshape and transform the appearance of the labia minora (smaller inner lips) or the labia majora (larger outer lips). Labia minora labiaplasty is performed to remove excess skin, or to achieve symmetry of uneven labia. Large or “floppy” labia can cause discomfort during sexual intercourse, chronic irritation or inability to wear swimsuits. Several surgical techniques are available. Each procedure is individually tailored to fit the woman’s unique anatomy and personal preference. Labia reduction surgery will transform the shape of the labia and achieve symmetry. Surgical procedures on the labia majora are designed to remove excess skin or to augment the appearance of the labia. The skin of the labia majora may become very loose and droopy as a result of aging or major weight loss. The excess skin is removed and the labia are reshaped. Further augmentation can be achieved with autologous fat transfer (using the patient’s own fat). Both procedures are performed in our operating room under local anesthesia with some sedation. This offers the patient convenience, privacy and a significant lower cost. The procedure takes about 60 minutes to perform and the recovery is short. The patient is able to resume sexual intercourse and exercise in 6-8 weeks.
HOODOPLASTY- CLITORAL HOOD REDUCTIONA hoodoplasty is performed to remove excess skin along the sides or top of the clitoris. In some women the clitoral hood (prepuce) can be completely or partially adhered to the clitoris, hiding it under the skin. This may interfere with normal sensation or even cause pain before or during intercourse. Hoodoplasty is designed to correct this abnormality and restore the appearance of the clitoral hood. This procedure is often combined with labia minora labiaplasty. The procedure is performed in our operating room under local anesthesia and followed by a fast recovery.
PERINEOPLASTYThe perineum is the area between the vaginal opening and the anus. It consists of skin, muscle and connective tissue. This area may be damaged during childbirth or from previous surgery. The perineoplasty will repair and restore the damaged perineum. This is achieved by excising excess skin and repairing the underlying muscles with sutures. The goal of the surgery is to accomplish a more snug feeling in the vaginal opening. The perineoplasty is commonly performed in conjunction with a vaginoplasty since both procedures address adjoining anatomical defects. The procedure takes about 30-40 minutes to perform. Recovery time is the same as for vaginoplasty.
HYMENOPLASTY-HYMEN REPAIRThis procedure is performed to repair the hymen and restore a second virginity. Women may request the procedure for cultural, social or religious reasons. The best results of hymenoplasty are in women who have not had natural (vaginal) deliveries. The remnants of the hymeneal membrane (skin) are surgically attached with fine sutures. After complete healing, sexual intercourse will tear the restored membrane and result in bleeding. The procedure is performed in complete privacy and confidentially in the office under local anesthesia. Surgery is completed within twenty to thirty minutes.
